Curriculum

Independence

We encourage each child to take ownership of their daily activities. Young children often have tantrums because they do not know how to help themselves despite their desire to do so. Exercises in this domain break down routine tasks into accomplishable steps that children can quickly master. This incremental approach allows children to learn how to care for themselves in an enjoyable way.

Example Activities:

  • Setting the table.
  • Preparing and serving snack.
  • Cleaning up after activities and mealtimes.

Self-Awareness

We guide children to express their needs and emotions, fostering their self-awareness. Upon exiting our program, children will effectively advocate for their needs to adults and peers with self-assurance.

Example Activities:

  • Teacher modeling of social skills and consideration for others.
  • Guided practice on using words to identify feelings.
  • Practicing a growth mindset and problem-solving.

Socialization

Children will exit our program with outstanding social skills. Over the course of each day, they will have ample opportunities to engage in interpersonal interactions and foster meaningful connections with their peers. Activities in this domain develop each child's self-esteem and build their resilience to the unknown, creating the foundation for confident, autonomous individuals later in life.

Example Activities:

  • Group activities (e.g., singing, dancing, crafting).
  • Outdoor play with peers.
  • Practicing eye contact when communicating.
  • Using good manners.

Grace and Courtesy

Activities that children perform while interacting with their peers and their environment with respect for the collective interest. These lessons strengthen the sense of community within the classroom and teach essential skills that support socialization.

Example Activities:

  • Walking in a line.
  • Inviting others to play.
  • Practicing turn taking.
  • Politely asking for help.

Care of Self and the Environment

The foundations of good citizenship begin with caring for oneself and the environment. Activities from this domain develop coordination, functional independence, and order by following logical sequences. Activities dedicated to the care of the environment also establish a foundational sense of community and responsibility for the environment.

Example Activities:

  • Practicing personal hygiene (e.g., wiping their nose, hand washing, brushing teeth).
  • Tidying indoor environment (e.g., dusting, sweeping, mopping).
  • Caring for the outdoor environment (e.g., germinating seeds, aerating soil, weeding).

Extending Concentration

We nurture the development of a long attention span through our intentionally selected materials. With practice and guidance, children learn to focus for extended periods. Engaging, multi-step activities encourage children to explore tasks while extending their concentration.

Example Activities:

  • Bead stringing.
  • Puzzles.
  • Stacking and balancing.
